The Callander Weekend

It all started the weekend before with a group helping to erect the marquee despite the seemingly endless rain.

Friday 12th

This was a tale of 3 groups
A small group from Central Scotland floored the Marquee and set out tables, put up lights etc.
The Group from Yorkshire left home at around 5 in the evening to travel north
The Group from Northern Ireland landed at Troon at 9.30am after what must have been a very early start, to be met by Chic & Heather, for a run up the coast in more rain and Lunch at Arrochar. The afternoon run was cut short due to heavy rain and mist.

Saturday 13th

Everyone met at Station Road Car Park in Callander for the run to Blair Castle. We set off with hoods down and no rain! The run took us through Killin, past the Falls of Dochart and onward down the side of Loch Tay to Aberfeldy, Tummel Bridge, then up to Blair Atholl.
Lunch at Blair Castle was very good soup and sandwiches, and after a look at the gift shop we (nearly all!) left for the return run, via Aberfeldy, Sma’ Glen and a trip over the moors at Braco. We only had to close the roofs once in the vicinity of Braco, but they soon were down again.
Once back in Callander the Barbeque in the evening was followed by live music, thanks to Sandy, Ian and Robert, accompanied by the usual tuneful sing-along. A wandering minstrel (Chas) gave us a rendition of Alice (not the PC version)

Sunday 14th

The CS crowd gathered at the marquee and decided to drop it whilst it was dry. As soon as it was down the rain resumed, so any idea of a run was forgotten as the weather went downhill.
The Irish group went sightseeing in Edinburgh and Stirling, whilst the Yorkshire group took a dry run home via a scenic route.

The group from Northern Ireland have invited CS to a return visit to Northern Ireland next Easter.

Thanks to all that helped with the Marquee the weekend before, and on Sunday; to Chic & Heather for hosting the NI crowd. Also to Gavin who came back for another 4 hours of tidying up on Monday, and everyone who helped make the event a success.

Richard & Eileen

What more can I say that has not already been said? Yes an all round excellent event. Warm, friendy,  Scottish hospitality was experienced and enjoyed by all. Thanks again to Richard and Eileen for opening up their home to us all and to Charles and Heather for taking us "under their wings". Thnks too, to all the unspoken heroes who worked hard behind the scenes and gave up their valuable time to make this event happen. Really looking forward to the return visit to NI in 2012.
