The Halloween Run

Sunday 31st October 2010

Halloween was the chosen date for our last run of the year, and a spooky one it turned out to be. A misty and gloomy morning added to the atmosphere as we gathered at Stirling services for the start of the run. As the dozen cars and 21 members arrived it was clear we were in for a fun day, well, how often do we have pumpkins, spiders, rats, bats and fangs adorning our precious machines.

It was great to meet new members Morag and Ross joining us on their first event. Im sure they must have wondered if they had stumbled into some strange religious car cult, yes the cloaked, clawed sister of Cruella was with us.

Leaving Stirling and driving up into the Carron Valley it didnt take long before the mist cleared and we were into brilliant sunshine, perfect conditions for a late October run.  We wound our way through Fintry, Kippen and Thornhill where a lucky black cat crossed our path and almost lost one of its lives. Then, at our rendezvous point in Comrie, we joined forces with our NSS friends.

With our numbers now increased to 16 cars and 26 members, we continued on to our lunch stop at The Clachan Cottage Hotel in Lochearnhead.

Parking at the side of the loch gave us the chance to watch some of the last water sports activities of the season before heading indoors for some much needed food and refreshments. Following a hearty lunch it was then time for the judging of the Spooky Car Competition. A unanimous show of hands saw Jacqueline being presented with the winning prize for her scary creation (yes, the CAR). We also held our last raffle of the year in aid of Maggies Cancer Caring Centres and raised a fantastic 68 which will be added to the 612 already raised during the year. We wish to thank everyone who contributed prizes and purchased tickets. It is very much appreciated.

The final part of the run saw us trundling over the Trossachs to Aberfoyle and the end of yet another fun MX-5 Scotland event. The day was greatly enhanced by the attendance of our NSS friends, we hope you all had an enjoyable day. To Morag and Ross we hope you also enjoyed your first club event and that well see you both many more times in 2011.
