The October Weekend

Saturday 6th to Sunday 7th October 2018

Meeting point – Erskine Garden Centre

0930 for departure at 1000hrs
Caulders Garden Centre, Erskine

For this year’s October outing, and to say our farewell to the programmed runs of 2018, we are remaining on the west coast roads this year in the Argyll area.

Day 1. – 112 miles

Saturday 6th – setting off from the Garden Centre, the route will take us over the back roads through Houston, Kilmalcolm, Achengoyle before descending into Greenock where we will take the “normal” road to Lunderston Bay and onward to Western Ferries at McInroys Point. This should take around an hour.

Taking the Ferry across to Hunters Quay which takes around 25mins, the route will continue up Holy Loch then on towards Tighnabruaich before stopping for lunch at Portavadie parking at the Leisure centre.

No set lunch has been organised but the prices for soup/sandwich & drink were reasonable within the Leisure centre.

Setting off again, we will head to Inveraray, heading north to Otter Bay before cutting across the forestry road back to Glendaurel and onwards to the Hotel.

We have available Ferry tickets at the discounted rate should you not have any – Car/Driver at £8.39 and Passenger at £2.31.

The hotel is fully booked with another event taking place so parking spaces, I imagine, will be at a premium.  Parking in front of the hotel is limited but hopefully there should be room at the side of the hotel (through the arches) to accommodate us.

Costs are £65 DB&B per person and there is a £25 supplement for a single occupancy.

The Inveraray Inn

Day 2. – 151mls

Sunday 7th - Setting off from the hotel, the route takes us to Oban where we can have a pit stop & refuel for any.  Resuming, the route takes us south to Crinan where, if there is room in the car park & weather is kind, will allow a stroll around before heading off again along to the Cairnbaan Hotel for lunch of soup, sandwich & a drink for £10.50 per person.

Setting off again we will keep to the main roads towards Lochgilphead, heading back to Inveraray and a stop at the Tree Shop at the head of Loch Long for a cuppa.

The final route will take us passed the Rest n be Thankful down to Arrochar, then along Loch Long towards Faslane before taking the Haul Rd back to Loch Lomond Shores car park where we say our farewells.

A raffle will also be held with the proceeds this year going to our chosen charity for 2018.

Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance

Donations of prizes are always welcome.

Big thanks to everybody on the run today for their support. I will perfect parallel parking eventually, today's attempt was well below par.

Thanks Drew and Ali for organising us this weekend. Very enjoyable run in the sunshine yesterday apart from my little mishap. The rain today dampened spirits somewhat, but still good fun and great to see everyone.

For those buggers interested in others misfortune the recovery cost is £240.00. So who one the sweepstake then?
Anyone know how to go about crowd funding, should I seek advice from Alex Salmond. lol

9th Oct 2018 05:39 :: Hugh
Apologies for the spelling, that should be "who won the sweepstake."

9th Oct 2018 08:45 :: Drew
No-one ONE the sweepsteak, all guesses were £300 + so did you get off lightly?
We will make you the charity next year.

Sorry i am late.....Everyone has beaten me to it...Thanks to Marcia & Raymond for organizing the run, huge thanks for Ali & Drew for leading the weekend, would like to thank Wattie for the quiz but then again perhaps I would be better off just handing out the pens.
