The Perthshire Glens Run

Sunday 8th July 2018

After weeks of wall to wall sunshine one big worry, would it last until the day of the run? Well the sun gods were looking down favourably on us and provided the perfect top down weather conditions.

At the start point at Kinross Services, 24 smiling members in 15 gleaming cars gathered full of anticipation for a fun days driving. After a short briefing, handing out routes and radios we fired up the engines and headed out. With Jacqueline and I in the lead car and Angus in the rear, we had ourselves a convoy.

The first part of the run passed by Loch Leven to Balgedie Toll then headed north on twisty back roads to Glenfarg and Bridge of Earn. At this point we popped onto the M90 motorway and over the scenic Friarton Bridge over the River Tay. Once we reached Glendoick we returned to the MX-5ís natural habitat and proceeded through Pitroddie, Kilspindie, Kinnaird, Abernyte, Newtyle, Meigle and Alyth before our first stop at Peel Farm.

At Peel Farm there was something for everyone, toilets for the desperate, Coffee and scones for the hungry, shop for the retail lovers and a Gin Bothy for everyone else. Great spot and the first time itís been used by the Central Scotland Area as far as I know, judging by everyoneís comments I donít think itíll be the last.

Suitably refreshed it was back to the cars for the second section to Pitlochry for lunch. We travelled up through Kirkton of Glenisla, over the Bridge of Brewlands, past Drumore Loch and Blacklunans to the A93 Glenshee road. We turned onto the B950 then the fantastic A924 road over the hills from Kirkmichael to Pitlochry. Well it was fantastic a few weeks ago when we were planning the run, unfortunately the roads department in their wisdom had top dressed the road surface. I hate loose chippings on the road, but after what seemed like miles and miles of the dreaded slippery car chipping stuff, we were back onto a proper surface, thankfully at the best part of the road. Following a wee blast over the hill we arrived at or lunch stop at Cargill's Clubhouse Pitlochry.

With cars parked up we took to the clubhouse to enjoy a few drinks and a tasty Sunday roast lunch served with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables. I think everyone agreed that this new lunch venue for the club was a winner.

Back out into the scorching sunshine for the last leg of the run down to Perth. This took us through Pitlochry main street then onto the A9 south for a few miles. We then once again took to the back roads to Dunkeld, Caputh, Murthley, Bankfoot and Pitcairngreen before ending at The Glover Arms and the end of the run.

Lots of greats, great weather, great roads, great food and drink but best of all great company with our all our MX-5 members.

Finally, thanks to Angus for being the tail car.
