The October Weekend

Saturday 7th to Sunday 8th October 2017

Details

Meet at 10:00 for a 10:30ish departure

At

Whitelee Windfarm, Eaglesham

For this year’s October outing, and to say our farewell to the programmed runs of 2017, we are starting at Whitelee Windfarm around 1030 - 1045hrs.

The Visitors centre opens at 1000hrs and there is a café on site for that valuable cuppa & snack before we proceed onwards towards Girvan for Lunch, then to our overnight stop at Dryfesdale Country house Hotel in Lockerbie.

Our Sunday run will take us south to the Border & weather permitting, along the Solway coast before returning to Gretna for lunch.  Afterwards we proceed northeast towards Hawick before finishing at Peebles.

Day 1 (131 miles) - From Whitelee the run takes us across to the Ayrshire Coast via Mauchline, Drongan, Maybole, Turnberry & onwards to Girvan where we will have lunch at the Woodlands Bay Restaurant around 12:30hrs.

Setting off after lunch around 13:30hrs, we will leave the Ayrshire coast and head inland to Daily, Dalmelington, Carsphairn, Monaive, Duncow then onwards to Lockerbie arriving around 16:00hrs.

Day 2 (134 miles) - A leisurely departure time of 10:30hrs will see us heading south to Annan where we will have a refuel stop at Tesco then onwards to Gretna and across the border, where if the weather is suitable, head along the coast to Bowness on Solway before heading back to Gretna & the old Blacksmith shop for lunch around 12:30hrs.

After lunch we head north to join the A7 towards Hawick before heading to Innerleithen and eventually to Peebles where we will finish the run.
The Cross Keys pub is just a short walk for those wishing a quick bite to eat before heading homeward.
