Heb Trip June 2017

With one eye on the sky we started our journey and met at Tarvie early on Friday morning and after a brief gathering the midges pushed us on our way to Ullapool to board ferry number one of the weekend, total of 7 cars at this point.  Packs containing vital information on the weekends schedule were given out and more importantly the now in-famous “HI-5 Bingo” cards complete with “dabbers” with clear instructions that eyes-down will begin when we land on the Western Isles.  A smooth sailing later and we were ready to start our journey in Lewis.  Heading quickly (due to the small down-pour) to Lews Castle for lunch and some free time in Stornoway, some Hi-5ers used this time wisely to start their bingo game in earnest.
After a stop at the butchers for the largest fillet steaks ever seen, we head south to Harris and experience the best of roads that the Western Isles have to offer with top down driving all the way.  Stopping for some group pictures en route we head to Tarbert to collect car number 8 containing Martin and Lisa from the Uig Ferry.  8 cars now make the last short journey to No. 5 Drinishader with blue sky staying with us all evening.  Friday evening saw a departure for this food focused car club and we all pitched in to cook our own meals and with a few drams on the way the “social experiment” was a roaring success.
Day 2 starts with a fine selection of breakfast delivered by No.5 and we leave the cars to make the short walk to Clo-mor Tweed exhibition and a chance for some retail therapy before retrieving the cars and continuing on the Golden Road to Rodel Church and Hotel for pictures and comfort breaks.  Then the twists and turns continue as we head to Northton and lunch at Temple Café.  After lunch it was time to head to the beach and where better but the famous Luskentyre beach for paddling, swimming, but no rounders.  And although it was a clear day there was still a sign of a moon or two!!!! Hi- 5 Bingo was beginning to cause some tension in the group with some members being very inventive and the search for a black sheep has never been so urgent! Our next stop was Tarbert for tweed, gin and candles and then we were homeward bound for our next dinner, rest and relaxation before another busy day.
Day 3 was an early start and we headed towards Leverburgh and ferry number 2.  Some Hi-5ers were extremely happy at the police escort as that took some of them one step closer to Bingo victory.  A short crossing later and we increased our numbers to 9 with Mike joining us in North Uist and he escorted us to Balranald for more beaches, coffee & cake and then we drove on some magnificent roads through Benbecula before stopping for some more group photos at Our Lady in South Uist.  Just prior to our lunch stop at Polochar Inn we hear “Bingo” being called from FAB and as some other members will now know that 30 seconds late in Bingo is too late! We then drove down to the pier in Eriskay to deposit our message in a bottle, with our fingers crossed that it was not washed up later that day!  Then we re-traced our journey back to Benbecula and our last night stay at the Dark Isle Hotel where after dinner we complete the prize giving for FAB at Bingo.
Day 4 and we head towards our final ferry at Lochmaddy and leave behind the Western Isles with a heavy heart but with many memories and photos to bring home with us.  We leave Martin and Lisa in Uig for their long drive home and we head towards Loch Ness where there is a lovely little Inn run by this fabulous lady manager.  And no trip would be complete without a final dinner stop and drone pictures of the Loch Ness Inn which will gain brownie points for Dorothy at work!  Here’s to the next Western Isles run!
