Servicing in Edinburgh.

Postby Snapper Mike » Sat Aug 19, 2017 2:06 am

OK, Here's my beef. I've got an MX5 that I want serviced really well. I'm sick of paying dealer prices and am looking for a GOOD independent garage to do the job. Any recommendations please? Edinburgh area.

Sorry about that. It seems we no longer have any members from the Edinburgh area reading the forum.

Have you even considered approaching a good main dealer with a Club Mk3/Mk3.5 service discount deal?
"No" does not hurt...a kick in the nuts does though. So I'm informed.
Until you ask, you'll never know. What's the worst that can happen?
Even a good Indy ought to be charging around £50/60 per hour.
There is always an imbecile you never bargained for. Usually in a Tescon carpark with a dented Zafira minus hubcaps

I do most of the work on my Mk1 myself.
My mate, who works for Aston Martin does the stuff which I cannot take on, and also works on my Saab.

Failing that, I have used Leadburn garage before and get my MOTs done there.
Previously in a 2003 Montana, now in a 1991 V-Special...

Iain,

With regards to smaller garages, Mazda is great in offering free access to the Digital Service Record to small garages and it is granted the same day usually for nothing more than registering on the European Portal and sending the DSR administartor the garages headed notepaer with the their Portal log on details.

With regards to Diagnostics that is not free but Mazda offer their specific code reader to garges outwith the Mazda dealerships which is on the expensive side but what they also do is offer that same software for a PC that via a USB/ODB2 lead, gives the Independent Operator, dealer level diagnostics. It can be hired on a daily through annual basis with lots of durations in between.

Again it requires paid access but it can be bought by the hour and not that expensive for access to workshop manuals, updates etc

I have helped set a few garages and workshops up with the facility locally and sent the detail to Steve down at Goodwoodsportscars who also now have DSR access.

If you know any local garages that would be interested see below.

IO Registration

PLEASE FOLLOW ALL 4 STAGES OF THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY

2. By return you will receive two emails from the system.

The first advising you of your temporary password.

The second supplying a link, for you to confirm your registration.

3. Please return to Portal Login page at https://portal.mazdaeur.com/io

For those who were confused by my post of the 22nd August which included me for a moment, it was a reply to a topic on the main owners club site and had no relevance to this discussion!

Now to go back to the main OC forum and read the reply I made there!
