Drumtochty 2017 Tech Day

Drumtochty 2017 Tech Day, 25 March

We will be hosting another Tech Day at my Drumtochty Fettling Facility in March 2017 and that we have as usual the Grampian and Tayside crew attending but if I can ask all existing and new attendees not to save all the jobs on your MX5 or Eunos until the Tech Day.

As those who attended previous tech days will know the main choke point is time on the 2 post ramp.

Therefore can those people who want to do a full service or full brake change out or whatever that will take time please feel free to PM me and we can arrange a days lift time for you to do the work in a measured and non hurried way. Again if you are unsure of how long things will take PM me for info.

This leaves the Tech Day for shorter jobs that non technical people can look and learn on without getting too bored and also gets more cars on the lift for shorter times allowing especially new members who are a bit more bashfull that the existing long term crew to get their cars on the lift and have their questions answered.

The garage will be open from 9:00 am and bacon rolls will be served from around 10:00 am with tea and coffee together with a buffet lunch when the bacon rolls run out.

If you just want to come along to see what is going on then that is fine as we usually have a good selection of both the Grampian and Tayside members here. You can watch what is going on in the garage or just have a chat to the assembled masses.

For the avoidance of doubt no financial contribution is either expected or will be accepted from any visitors to the Tech Day.

Can members or visitors please post what jobs they want to do and where they are comming from to allow those travelling a distance or only wanting a quick underside inspection to be put on the lift earlier.

With regards to the work that can be done on the day.

A full engine, gearbox and diff oil change is possible but not a full sevices as that would require the wheels off and the brakes fluid changed.

An antifreeze change is no problem.

A full brake check and lube of disc pad sliders is fine but not a full change of pads and disks.

An underside inspection and checking under the wheel arch liners can be done but not the clean out of the arches and application of goo as that takes too long and creates too much mess for a tech day.

Clearing drains or lubing window slides is possible as is a spark plug change.

If you advise which jobs you would like to do I will advise if it is reasonable or if that needs a day on it's own.

Directions will be posted a day or so prior to the event.

That's another department of the Tech Day that would have to make that statement but I would hope so.

I now have some reflectors to add to each wheel arch in place of the blanks so that's maybe all four wheels off.

I also want to check where the grounding point is now it's lowered and which made itself very evident last week going over the humps on Haddo House drive. Tip, higher narrow road bumps need to be approached at an angle.

This assumes I can get up the drive and we can then get it on the lift

I also have a reversing camera to install, that's a separate session job as it will take 3 - 4 hours

Stephan (Elf) had difficulty in posting, his jobs are;

- Slight water leak from radiator system

- change bulbs in heater control panel

- "squeak" from nearside wheel (dunno which one)

Good day 4 MX5's and one Audi Q5 which also went on the Lift.

Even had a Jeep Renogade visiting.

Bacon rolls, tea biscuits and then filled rools for lunch.

Attendees easily pleased
