Returning to the fold ....

Postby ceathorne » Sat Jan 30, 2016 4:49 pm

Not a 'new user' ... but it's been a while ....
3 years since I SORN-ed Bonnie - my wee Mk1 black S Special - and tucked her away in a dry corner.
And boy, have I missed her! :(
Unfortunately she's got so much tin-worm that she not only needs full inner & outer sills & arches, but also strips along the floorpan on both sides - and goodness knows how much else would be required to get her back into commission again ( things I KNOW she would need are coolant hoses, power steering hoses, new battery etc. etc. )
So, I'm afraid that after a long & happy relationship, many grin-filled trips around the NW coast of Scotland, and many fun-filled trackdays at Knockhill (including one which resulted in an engine transplant) she'll be getting stripped down for parts :(
If anyone is needing anything for a black Mk1 there will be a list on the 'For-Sale' section shortly ...

However ..... viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14387
I'm back & ready to roll this year :D

When's Knockhill???? :D

Thought I'd jump in here [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY] Does your wee black car have any of the following? Front upper strut brace, rear mudguards (short type) or oem front lip? Congrats on the new car!

That looks sweet as! And that interior.........gorgeous! Always loved the red leather interior. Did initially think about respraying my mx5 white and fitting it with the red interior and red hood..........but got told "Nope, she's staying her original colour"! Have been told I can however change the interior colour, but red on red wouldn look right so thinking about tan leather.

Anyhoo, loving your s-speacial, one of my fav editions.

Was on holiday Robin :-)
Can I get my wee red wire back yet?
Needing to see this 'nuts & bolts' resto BRG for old time's sake!

Yes Chillax, always lusted after an S-Ltd myself .... but could never justify the premium, so built my own :-)
Haven't quite decided on what to do with the top of the door cards yet - hence she's running one black & one red one :P

Preserve & protect visit planned for this autumn, followed by new front wings / suspension & front end 'blowover' during the winter if funds permit!

The "Wee Red Wire" has a distant foggy memory...what was that about again?
Hate to say.....13/14 years back?
No worries getting down to you one day to show you the BRG.
It's got Autotrans issues just now insofar the two main pressure pipes are perforated and weeping ATF, but I've traced used replacements so it's essentially grounded for bad behaviour just now, and dripping ATF on somebody's drive would be a bit anti-scocial.
The box itself is sweet still. Changes up and down as new.
Still got the get the new paint pro-mopped at FozSports in Alloa, and a new hood fitted at Autolink Colin.
There's a raft of small fettlings to do as well, but that's part of the so-called "fun".
Darn thing is 26 years old this August.
For what it's worth Colin, I'm doing fine with the Koni SRT Street kit coil-overs. It was a gamble. They are the cheaper non-adjustable Koni kit but you can preset the shocks beforehand. My mechanic suggested we try "soft" first...I'm glad he did as it closely resembles my wife's 2002 Sport suspension.
Larkspeed were the cheapest for them...they can be up to £100/150.00 more elsewhere
The wee beastie corners like a fair-ground "Mad Mouse" now. You'd be better sitting in mine first tbh...it's low but supple enough.
